8 Measurement Checks Before Comparing Kitchen Cabinet Quotes
Compare kitchen cabinet measurement rules, corners, tall units, hardware and countertop scope before judging per-foot quotation rates.
Kitchen cabinet quotes in Singapore can use running length, separate upper and lower cabinets, or an itemised schedule of units. Similar totals can describe very different amounts of work. Before comparing a per-foot rate with a complete quotation, use these eight measurement checks to establish what is counted, what is excluded and which drawing defines the final arrangement.
1. Agree the measured drawing
Ask which plan and elevation revisions support the quantities. Distinguish a consultation estimate from a site-verified fabrication drawing. If the kitchen has not been measured, mark the figures provisional and agree when they will be checked before dimensions become an order to produce cabinets.
2. Separate upper and lower runs
Request the length or unit count for each run and identify how the pricing basis applies. A combined cabinet length is difficult to compare with a quote that measures them separately. Keep the actual extent visible instead of trying to infer it from one headline rate.
3. Clarify corner treatment
Ask how an L-shaped or U-shaped junction is measured and whether any section is counted in more than one run. Review the accessible internal arrangement too. An external corner can occupy priced length without providing the same usable storage as a straight cabinet section.
4. Identify tall units separately
Show pantry towers, fridge surrounds and oven cabinets as distinct elements with internal specifications. Ask whether their rate differs from standard base or wall cabinets. Height, doors, appliance interfaces and hardware can change the work even when the frontage occupies only a short part of the plan.
5. Account for gaps and fillers
Mark appliance openings, end panels, filler strips and service voids on the elevation. Ask how each is priced and finished. A gap in useful storage may still require surrounding construction, so removing it from a length calculation does not by itself establish the correct installed price.
6. Connect dimensions to internal fittings
Request a schedule of drawers, shelves, hinges, runners and pull-out mechanisms. Compare quantities against the same measured layout. Two quotations with the same cabinet length can differ substantially in useful storage and hardware, which a per-foot comparison alone cannot explain.
7. Separate countertop measurement
Ask how the top, upstands, cut-outs, edges and installation are quantified. Confirm the actual sink and appliance interfaces with the relevant suppliers. Do not assume that cabinet length automatically determines the complete countertop scope or that a slab price includes fabrication and all junctions.
8. Agree reconciliation after measurement
Ask how a verified quantity change affects price and who approves it. Record the basis for additions and reductions before work is released. This turns an estimate into a traceable comparison rather than allowing the original measurement method to remain undefined until the final bill.
An illustrative comparison
Quote A prices one combined cabinet length; Quote B lists base cabinets, wall cabinets and a tall oven unit. Ask both firms to measure the same marked drawing and specify the same drawers and finishes. Only then compare the installed totals. The lower rate may reflect a different counting method rather than a cheaper equivalent kitchen.
Frequently asked questions
Is per-foot pricing unreliable?
Not inherently. It becomes useful when the measurement rules, cabinet types and included products are clear and linked to the same drawing.
Should I calculate every quantity myself?
You can check the basis, but ask the responsible team to verify site dimensions and issue the final coordinated quantities before fabrication.
Enquiry wording to adapt
Please provide the measured cabinet plan and elevations, separate upper, lower and tall units, explain corner and filler treatment, and list internal fittings. State how quantities and price will be reconciled after site verification.
