A BTO carpentry-only package may suit a homeowner who wants fitted storage while retaining most existing finishes. The package name alone does not establish who handles services, protection or the interfaces around new cabinets. Before choosing an affordable interior design or carpentry proposal in Singapore, compare these eight scope boundaries using the actual flat and intended storage.

1. Define what carpentry-only includes

Ask whether the appointment covers design, measurement, drawings, fabrication, delivery and installation. Identify any selection support and revision limits. A supplied-and-installed cabinet quote is different from a broader design service, even when both proposals are presented through attractive room visualisations.

2. Inventory the storage requirement

List kitchen items, clothes, shoes and equipment before comparing cabinet quantities. Ask for internal plans as well as external elevations. A package can contain a generous length of cabinetry that does not match the depth, access or compartments your household actually needs.

3. Assess retained finishes

Show the team the actual walls, floors and existing fitted items. Ask what condition and alignment checks are included before installation. Retention should be a stated assumption with identified preparation needs, rather than an expectation that every existing surface is ready to receive new joinery.

4. Identify service interfaces

List appliances, power points, lighting and other systems affected by the proposed cabinets. Ask who coordinates the relevant professionals and supplier requirements. A carpentry-only price may leave these tasks outside its scope, but the tasks still need an owner and a place in the programme.

5. Specify materials and hardware

Record product references, finishes, edge treatment, hinges, runners and internal fittings. Ask what can be selected within the package and how alternatives are valued. A generic premium-material label does not make two cabinet systems equivalent or explain how the completed storage will operate.

6. Include protection and making good

Ask who protects the flat and any common areas involved in delivery, and what repairs or finishing are included around the installation. Identify relevant property requirements through the responsible team. A cabinet total should not leave these surrounding tasks invisible until installation day.

7. Agree drawings and release dates

Connect fabrication to site measurement, appliance information and approved details. Ask what remains provisional and what happens after approval. A standard package should still resolve the actual interfaces of your home before dimensions and selections are released to production.

8. Compare the full appointment cost

List separately appointed trades, owner purchases, delivery and any additional design work beside the package total. Compare this complete arrangement with a wider renovation appointment. The smaller package is useful only if the remaining responsibilities can be coordinated at a cost and effort that suit you.

An illustrative comparison

A kitchen-and-wardrobe package excludes electrical relocation and countertop installation. A broader proposal includes both. Put the same cabinet layout and products into each comparison, then add the separately priced interfaces to the package. This reveals the actual appointment choice instead of assuming the shorter service description guarantees a saving.

Frequently asked questions

Is a carpentry-only package always cheaper?

Not necessarily. Compare the complete scope, product specifications and separately appointed work needed to finish the same brief.

Can it still include interior design?

Ask exactly which drawings, selections and coordination services are included. The package label does not define the design appointment.

Enquiry wording to adapt

Please quote a BTO carpentry-only scope with measured layouts, internal fittings, products and installation details. Identify excluded trades, protection, making good and design responsibilities so we can compare the complete arrangement.
