When requesting kitchen renovation quotes in Singapore, define the cabinet layout, countertop, appliances and service connections together. A cabinet price per foot run is only one part of the work. The finished kitchen may also require removal, plumbing, electrical work, wall finishes and installation of items you supply.

Use this checklist when you have a layout in mind and are ready to ask firms for itemised proposals.

Decide whether you need a refresh or a rebuild

A refresh might retain the layout and suitable surfaces while replacing selected cabinetry or fittings. A rebuild may involve removal, new finishes, relocated services and a different storage arrangement. Describe the scope clearly before requesting prices.

Tell each firm what you will keep, including appliances, sink, hob and flooring. Ask them to assess whether retained items can be integrated and what limitations apply. Avoid assuming that keeping an item removes every associated installation or making-good charge.

Compare cabinet specifications beyond the unit price

Ask how upper and lower cabinets are measured and priced. Check the proposed dimensions, cabinet depth, carcass material, door finish, internal shelves and exposed panels. Confirm whether drawers, pull-out baskets, corner mechanisms and soft-close hardware are included or optional.

A drawing should show the internal arrangement you are buying, not only the external appearance. Request the hardware brand or specification where it affects your choice. Ask how final measurements will change the quoted quantity and when you will approve production drawings.

For a small kitchen, use the brief to identify daily needs: preparation space, frequently used items, appliance storage and cleaning access. A longer run of cabinets is not automatically a more useful layout.

Price the countertop as a complete installation

Specify the material, thickness, finish and edge treatment. Ask where joints will be located and how the proposed slabs or sections affect the result. Confirm sink and hob cut-outs, upstands, supports, delivery and installation.

Ask which maintenance requirements and warranty exclusions apply to the selected material. If the quote uses a material allowance, have the firm identify the range available within it and the cost of your chosen alternative. Keep the approved sample or product reference with the final specification.

Finalise appliances before the cabinets are made

Provide the actual appliance models or installation specifications for the hob, hood, oven, fridge and dishwasher where applicable. Confirm ventilation clearances, door-opening space and access to connections with the installers.

Record who supplies each item and who installs, connects and tests it. An appliance bought separately may still generate installation or coordination charges. Discuss the electrical, plumbing and gas scope with appropriately qualified workers; do not assume the cabinet installer covers every service.

Check the costs around the cabinetry

Ask whether the quote includes dismantling old cabinets, protecting retained flooring, removing debris, repairing affected surfaces, backsplash work, lighting installation and final cleaning. Check plumbing and electrical quantities rather than accepting an undefined allowance for all points.

For HDB flats, review the applicable kitchen and building-work requirements with the firm. For condos, clarify management requirements affecting access, deliveries and renovation works. Do not treat a design proposal as confirmation that every alteration is permitted.

Questions to resolve before paying a deposit

“Please confirm the cabinet measurement method, carcass and door specifications, hardware, internal layout, countertop details and appliance installation responsibilities. Identify all removal, plumbing, electrical, protection, delivery and disposal charges. Please state the total payable, applicable tax, payment milestones, programme and variation process.”

Compare the written responses against the same scope. The general quotation guide at the “Compare Renovation Quotations in Singapore” guide linked in Sources & references can help organise your comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Why do kitchen cabinet quotes differ for the same length?

The cabinet configuration, material, finish, hardware and installation scope may differ. Check those details before deciding whether the price difference represents better value.

Can I buy appliances separately?

Yes, if you coordinate dimensions, supply dates and installation responsibilities with the relevant firms. Confirm any additional charges in writing.

Will retaining the sink location reduce the work?

It may change the required scope, but ask the firm to assess your actual layout and services. Do not assume a saving without an itemised revised proposal.
